i) Updated Information as of 14 February 2020 on Safety and Precautionary Measures Regarding Coronavirus (Covid-19)

E-mail from Vice President for Administration on 14 February 2020

Dear AIT Community

Since we last communicated with you on 6 February 2020, the Coronavirus Task Force would like to provide you with an update of our daily meetings.

The WHO has named this strain of coronavirus, Covid-19.

There have been no new students/employees/residents/visitors being placed on self-quarantine in the AIT quarantine quarters since 6 February 2020.

One student and one employee have completed their quarantine period of 14 days and both received medical clearance. As additional precautionary measures, those who leave quarantine are required to have their temperatures monitored for a further ten days, reminded to avoid going to public places or crowded areas, strongly recommended to continue to wear a mask in public, and should report immediately to the medical center if they feel unwell.

Those in quarantine are being visited in their quarantine quarters daily, to have their temperature monitored; and our doctors visit them three times during the 14-day quarantine period. Those in quarantine, both on-and-off campus, currently have no symptoms.

We wish to emphasize that personal and university guests who have visited China in the last 14 days are NOT to appear on AIT campus. This is the responsibility of every AIT resident and the organizer of whatever event on campus to make sure this is adhered to.

The TF also focused on contingencies measures should someone come down with Covid-19. To this end, 'Contingency Measures that will be implemented in the unlikely event of someone at AIT contracting coronavirus', were circulated.  We are still fine-tuning the specific contingency follow-up steps should the impact on AIT campus be for a longer period.

A new WHO poster on How to Handrub is also being displayed around the campus.

Our intranet site, that can be found here: Coronavirus Updates, continues to be updated regularly with these above mentioned details.

AIT continues to be grateful for your kind support and understanding, as we remain vigilant and adapt to the ever-changing circumstances. Please continue to take precautions, by washing your hands regularly, wearing a mask, and avoiding large crowds, and seeking immediate medical care if you feel unwell. This remains an extremely serious public health crisis, and we strongly encourage our entire AIT family to do their part in taking precautions and staying vigilant.

With kind appreciation.
Russell
