1. A Better Working Environment

Email from AIT President on 10 August 2020.

Dear members of the AIT family,

I am committed to creating an environment at AIT that enables us to take the Institute to a higher level.  To do so, it is essential that we foster a positive and team attitude.
But there will be instances where a person may feel that an unsatisfactory situation has developed at AIT which requires addressing, and thus wish to lodge a complaint or express a grievance.  For these, AIT already has policies and procedures for addressing grievances, such as sexual harassment, bullying, invasion of privacy and discrimination, among others (PA 2-1-2) and on disciplinary action (PA 1-3-3, X; PA 1-1-1, IX). Procedures for handling the grievances of students are set out in the Student Handbook.

In short,

1.     All complaints from within a unit must be addressed through the chain of command within the unit.
2.     Complaints about other units/persons must be addressed by the complainant, through his/her supervisor, to the supervisor (or next chain of command) of the other unit.
3.     For students, complaints must be addressed through the relevant chain of command: academic advisors; Department Heads; Dean; Director of the Office of Student Affairs.

However, if after following these established procedures, it is felt that the complaint or grievance cannot be resolved through these channels and it is of a serious nature, it should be drawn to the attention of the AIT Administration.  Should the matter reach this point, here is the system for complaint or grievance:

Step 1 — Make a report and send it, using your AIT email address, to report@ait.ac.th.  Any complaint or grievance reported in this way will be addressed seriously, and in utmost confidence.  No anonymous complaints will be accepted.

Step 2 — The Director of the Office of Academic Administration (OAA), Ms Izel Ann Dante, has been entrusted by me to make an initial assessment of all complaints and grievances (including, but not limited to, cases of unethical behavior and misconduct) and to determine whether there is a case.  She will do this by first ascertaining all facts material to the complaint.  This may involve speaking confidentially to the complainant.  She will also review the relevant Institute Policies and Procedures.

Step 3 — Based on her assessment, she will submit a confidential report to the Vice President for Administration and to me, recommending either that there is a case, or that no further action is required.  I will then decide the actions that the Institute needs to take.

I would like all of us to focus on the challenges facing AIT.  But to do so requires that we address legitimate concerns about the governance of the Institute.  Before making a complaint, you should be confident of its legitimacy and seriousness.  And if you are confident of that, we will take your concern seriously.  This system described above will provide an equitable and confidential channel for students, faculty and staff to put forward their grievances and complaints.  The administration will do its utmost to try to reach a fair resolution.

Let’s all strive to have a better working environment at AIT!

Thank you!

Dr. Eden Woon
President

6. Hybrid Instruction at AIT - Important Steps to Log Into ZOOM Classes
Email from AIT Vice-President for Administration on 4 August 2020.

The actions required to access our AIT Hybrid Instruction in our Smart Modified Classrooms.

1. For new students who have received their User Name and Password, an important NECESSARY STEP is for you to activate your AIT email account.  As a reminder, the Student Password Slip document received, either in-person or via email (for overseas students), highlighted the following:
Your login account for accessing Computing Services, Internet and Email Services as well as On-line Student Information System is:

User Name: st123456
Password: abcde*123

Changing password
You should immediately change the first-time password assigned above and preferably change it again periodically. To change the password, go to https://ait-gmail.ait.ac.th/ and choose 'Change Password'.

2. After activating your AIT account, please use your AIT User Name to SIGN UP for a ZOOM account as mentioned in the Hybrid Instruction Users Guide for Students. After signing up, you can sign in to your ZOOM account with your AIT email and your ZOOM password. If you sign up correctly, you will be able to access our Hybrid Instruction in our Smart Modified Classrooms. If you need any support in this regard, you can contact your Program Secretary or the Admissions Department at AIT.

It has come to our attention today that students have been trying to log into ZOOM for Hybrid Instruction using their personal email accounts, like Gmail, Hotmail etc. This is NOT what you should do.  As stated in the Users Guide for Students, AIT Smart Modified Classrooms can only be accessed via ZOOM accounts that are associated with an AIT email address ONLY.

However, to facilitate your transitioning into the use of Hybrid Instruction, AIT will allow you, until 8pm on Friday, 7 August, to access Smart Modified Classrooms online by either logging into ZOOM with your AIT email address (as described above), or using your personal email address if you have a problem.

Please note that after this Friday evening, you will be required to log into ZOOM accounts associated with AIT email addresses ONLY, in order to continue accessing future Hybrid Instruction classes.

We apologise for the glitches encountered by some of you and we believe we have identified them.  Thank you for your patience as we bring you Hybrid Instruction and please contact your instructor and School contacts should any additional support be needed.  We stand by to respond expeditiously!

8. Invitation to join Global Grad Show 2020
Email from AIT Entrepreneurship Center on 24 July 2020.

Dear AITians,

On behalf of Global Grad Show (GGS), we would like to invite you to submit proposals for the 2020 edition this November. Global Grad Show is a year-round programme for university students, graduates and professors who are working on solutions for a better world.
It is a platform for promotion, collaboration and development of projects addressing challenges faced by people and communities around the planet, created by academics in the fields of technology, science and design.

The programme includes:
• A world-class virtual experience focused on the talent and trajectory of each participant.
• Interactive multimedia elements profiling each graduate and project with unique video, sketch and animation features (which graduates can also use in their channels).
• An exclusive platform, connecting graduates directly with press, industry and potential investors, including on-demand virtual tours of their exhibits and facilitated one-on-one communications.
• Online tours, mapping projects through themed routes to offer visitors an insight into emerging global trends and the minds behind the solutions.
• A collaboration initiative, for professors and graduates, to work together across disciplines, institutions and countries on real-world challenges.
• An entrepreneurship route that offers graduates with the opportunity to develop their project towards implementation.
• The progress prize will also be returning this year offering a $10,000 award to the graduate behind the winning project (and a $10,000 grant to the supervising professor), to support the project’s further development and academic research.
Participation is free of charge, and just as they did with the physical exhibition, they will work closely with the participants to prepare them for the show and produce the required content for the media elements.

If you are interested to join and want AIT Entrepreneurship to help you with your proposal, please register here: https://forms.gle/DPjxU4dPQKfEDnux5
