1. Hybrid Instruction at AIT

Email from AIT  Vice-President for Administration on 24 July 2020.

Dear Students of AIT:

A very warm welcome to the 2020 Fall Semester at AIT!  This message describes in some detail AIT's Hybrid Instruction, where learning will continue without missing a beat!

For students overseas, please be REMINDED that AIT hosts the special online Fall Semester Overseas Students Forum that will be held on Wednesday 29 July 2020 at 2:00pm, Thailand time. For more details, please refer to the 23 July message from the Office of Student Affairs on the Fall Semester Overseas Students Forum.

We are excited to bring this Hybrid Instruction modality to you this Fall, knowing that a number of you will likely not be able to arrive in Thailand in time due to various restrictions because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Instruction for the Fall semester will begin on Tuesday, 4 August 2020, and this message contains IMPORTANT details regarding AIT’s new Hybrid Instruction, including its access and operations, so that you can partake in AIT instruction even if online.

Our Hybrid Instruction approach to classroom teaching this Fall allows AIT to offer instruction to both students who are in the classroom on AIT Campus and those who access the classroom remotely.  With courses offered in Hybrid Instruction, ALL students in the same course, whether in person or online, will join the instructor in interactive lessons at the same time. This Hybrid Instruction system will allow an online student to mingle with classmates who are sitting in the classroom.

The same system will also allow online participation in student activities to give you more of a “feel” of our campus and activities here. Our aim is to provide those online from outside Thailand, as close to a residential experience at AIT as possible, until you are able to arrive on our beautiful campus at AIT and attend classes in person. Those who are on AIT campus and attend classes in person will find the instruction unchanged from previous years, with the exception that part of your interaction will be with classmates who are online.

We request that ALL students sign up for a ZOOM account to ensure effective class participation. Thus, it is important that you acquaint yourself with AIT's Hybrid Instruction wherever you find yourself on 4 August 2020. To assist you in this matter, we have attached a Users Guide for Students, which provides information on:

1. Downloading and installing the ZOOM APP on your laptop/device
2. Opening and logging into a ZOOM account, USING YOUR AIT STUDENT EMAIL ADDRESS
3. Entering your FIRST NAME and LAST/FAMILY NAME, so your Instructor and fellow in-class students can recognize you
4. Attending classes

4.1.1. How to join a ZOOM classroom/lesson using the MEETING ID and PASSWORD
4.1.2. How to view the POWERPOINT lesson
4.1.3. How to view the in-class WHITEBOARD
4.1.4. How to TOGGLE and PIN screens in ZOOM to see the appropriate views and to see your fellow online students
4.1.5. How to see your fellow students IN-CLASS in your SAME COURSE
4.1.6. How to leave the classroom at the end of the lesson by selecting LEAVE MEETING in ZOOM
4.2. For IN-CLASS students,
4.2.1. NO need to bring your own LAPTOP/DEVICE to class, unless advised otherwise
4.2.2. If you do bring a DEVICE, how to LOGON without DISTURBING the lesson
4.2.3. If you are in Thailand and not in quarantine, you are expected to attend classes.  We will have strict social distancing enforced in the classrooms for safety.
5. Answers to FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS, such as;  How do students ask questions?, How do students share PowerPoint slides?, How many views are available?, and How will hygiene be maintained in the classroom?

We recommend that you familiarise yourself with these requirements before classes begin on Tuesday, 4 August 2020. Your instructor and School contacts will be able to provide any additional support needed.

As mentioned above, more details on Hybrid Instruction can be learned by you when AIT hosts the special online Fall Semester Overseas Students Forum, to be held on Wednesday 29 July 2020 at 2:00pm, Thailand time.

Once again, welcome to Hybrid Instruction at AIT and we look forward to supporting your learning until such time as we meet you face-to-face at AIT. Until then, please stay safe and healthy.

Vice President for Administration
Head, the AIT Hybrid Instruction Task Force

2. Invitation to join Global Grad Show 2020
Email from AIT Entrepreneurship Center on 24 July 2020.

Dear AITians,

On behalf of Global Grad Show (GGS), we would like to invite you to submit proposals for the 2020 edition this November. Global Grad Show is a year-round programme for university students, graduates and professors who are working on solutions for a better world.
It is a platform for promotion, collaboration and development of projects addressing challenges faced by people and communities around the planet, created by academics in the fields of technology, science and design.

The programme includes:
• A world-class virtual experience focused on the talent and trajectory of each participant.
• Interactive multimedia elements profiling each graduate and project with unique video, sketch and animation features (which graduates can also use in their channels).
• An exclusive platform, connecting graduates directly with press, industry and potential investors, including on-demand virtual tours of their exhibits and facilitated one-on-one communications.
• Online tours, mapping projects through themed routes to offer visitors an insight into emerging global trends and the minds behind the solutions.
• A collaboration initiative, for professors and graduates, to work together across disciplines, institutions and countries on real-world challenges.
• An entrepreneurship route that offers graduates with the opportunity to develop their project towards implementation.
• The progress prize will also be returning this year offering a $10,000 award to the graduate behind the winning project (and a $10,000 grant to the supervising professor), to support the project’s further development and academic research.
Participation is free of charge, and just as they did with the physical exhibition, they will work closely with the participants to prepare them for the show and produce the required content for the media elements.

If you are interested to join and want AIT Entrepreneurship to help you with your proposal, please register here: https://forms.gle/DPjxU4dPQKfEDnux5
