(a)    Special Lecture on “Home is where the money goes: determinants and impacts of remittance flows in the Ganges Brahmaputra and Mekong delta regions”: 28 Mar 2017

B. Announcements

 

(i)    Grant for purchasing books and equipment from India (Indian grant support)
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, has recently contributed FY 2016-2017 Grants-in-Aid to AIT for purchasing books published and equipment manufactured in India. The fund available for books and equipment is about THB 100,000 and about THB 40,000 respectively.
Therefore, faculty and staff members please provide the list of books and equipment that they would like to buy by Monday 27 March 2017.
The AIT - Indian Steering Committee will meet and finalize the list immediately thereafter (Members are: VPAA, Prof. Routray, Prof. Tripathi, Dr Jai Govind Singh and Prof. Barbara Igel). Please contact Ms. Sumana Shrestha, OEXR at sumana@ait.asia for the document to fill and for further information.

(ii)    Only in AIT: Video Contest

There are things that happen "Only in AIT." There are sights that can be seen "Only in AIT." There are sounds that you can hear "Only in AIT." So shoot a quick 60-second video titled "Only in AIT," and share your stories with everyone.

(iii)    Batch Book Photo Shoot

As per tradition, SU Media Affairs will be publishing the 127th Batch Book for the graduating students this semester. Batch Book being a memorable gift, it cannot be complete without graduating students’ pictures. SU Media together with AIT Office of Media and Communications (OMCO), has arranged a Batch Book Photo Shoot for graduating students.

Khun Paitoon, the photographer will be available for batch book photo shoot from 27 March to 7 April 2017. His office hours are between 8.30-16.00, Monday-Friday. However, you can check for his availability at Tel. 02- 524- 5832.

Gowns are available at the photo studio and any color of tops are allowed, but white shirt is recommended.
Please also be informed that 200 THB shall be paid at the studio when requesting for a photo shoot. After the photo shoot, the only one best click will be sent out for retouching and then printed out in 8" x 10". However, each student may ask to save the rest of your photos to your pen drive.

(iv)    Photo competition winners

(vi)    Elsevier Quiz for AIT

(vii)    Trial of EBSCO Business Source Complete

EBSCO has arranged a trial for Business Source Complete for one month for AIT.  The Business Source Complete is set up via the AIT Library website.  Please access the Library at 203.159.6.13.  Please scroll down the Library's web page and click Trial Databases.  Then click Business Source Complete.  Information about the Business Source Complete and links will be available -  link for the main database and related links available in the Business Source Complete as follows.

(viii)    2016 Personal Income Tax – IMPORTANT

Please be reminded that the deadline of 2016 Personal Income tax filing will be on March 31, 2017.

Payroll now has already finished your a) Withholding income tax certificate and b) Draft PND 91 to guide  your tax filing (created by IT Department). The documents will be delivered to you no later than this week.

You can either submitted the tax filing on line or by hard copy. On-line is encouraged. However, if you want to submit by hard copy, you can print the official PND 91 from the soft file enclosed in this email.

Please note that in 2016, there were several special tax incentives provided by the Thai government to stimulate the economic. These are taxable expenses which you can declare in the PND 91 form Section C items 15-19.

(ix)    Trials for Elsevier e-books, Springer e-books, Emerald Emerging Market Case Studies and Elsevier Knovel

AIT Library will have new online resources and e-books in 2017.  Elsevier e-books, Springer e-books and Emerald Emerging Market Case Studies will be activated in January 2017 whereas Elsevier Knovel will be officially started in April 2017.  During the month of December 2016 (and December 2016 through March 2017 for Knovel), the publishers of these e-books and online resources have set up trials for AIT.  

AIT Library invites all faculty, staff, and students to access the mentioned e-books and online resources from the Library webpage at 203.159.6.13.  The Library webpage may be accessed from the AIT website. Alternatively, click the following URL links to access the e-books and online resources.

(x)    Invitation to the International Congress on Education for the 21st Century, 3-4 May 2017, Impact Forum, Nonthaburi, Thailand

The Ministry of Education Thailand, in collaboration with SEAMEO, will organize the International Congress on Education for the 21st Century (ICE2017) with the theme “Making a Difference: Shaping a New Learning Paradigm for a Sustainable Southeast Asia.”  The congress is to be held on 3-4 May 2017 at Impact Forum, Nonthaburi, Thailand.

The Congress aims to provide a platform for conversations, consensus, commitment to collaborate and cooperate among educators and stakeholders in Southeast Asia.  It also aims to generate perspectives on how to best shape education and human resource development policies and practices to not only be in line with regional accelerating development but also for sustainable development for well-being and peaceful living of people in the region.

In this relation, the Organizing Committee wishes to invite interested persons to participate in the event.  The Organizing Committee also welcomes 70 scholars/officers/practitioners from other countries outside Southeast Asian Region to attend the ICE2017 only if they successfully register online via www.ice-moeth2017.seameo.org .

Interested persons are invited to submit abstracts to ICE2017 under the designated sub-themes to related academe and institutions.  The Ministry of Education Thailand will provide 2-night accommodation at Novotel Bangkok Impact Hotel and meals during the event for the selected paper presenters.  The presenters will be responsible for airfare and transportation costs to and from the meeting venue.  The abstract submission deadline is 30 March 2017.

 

 

C. Campus Updates

 

(i)    Swimming pool is open from 22 March 2017
The swimming pool renovation has been completed and has opened to the users since 22 March 2017.

The users are requested to kindly follow the following rules and regulations:  

a.      The users of the pool are only AIT community which includes AIT staff, students and their families, the visitors at AITCC.  It is strictly not for outsiders.

b.      All users have to register before using the swimming pool and the swimming pool staff may also request for the AIT ID card for verification.

c.       Proper swim wear is required. No outerwear including cut-offs or shorts will be allowed.

d.      Food and beverages are not allowed in the pool.

e.       Bringing liquor or any intoxicating drinks is prohibited.

f.        Individuals intoxicated with liquor are not permitted to use the pool. Lifeguards and/or security guards have the authority to prevent intoxicated individuals from entering the pool area.

g.      Smoking is not permitted at the pool.

h.      Take a shower before getting to the pool.

i.        Take off shoes or slippers before entering the pool deck.

j.        No screaming, running, rough play or any activity that would disturb other users and prevent general swimming.

k.      No spitting, spouting water or blowing nose in the pool.

l.        Children must be accompanied and supervised by parents or guardians at all times.

m.    Inexperienced swimmer must be accompanied by experienced swimmer in the pool.

n.      Persons suffering from contagious diseases or those with open wounds are strictly prohibited from using the pool.

o.      Running and playing around the edge of the pool are not allowed as these may result in injury due to falling in the water or falling on the concrete.

Individuals breaking the pool regulations are subject to possible forfeiture swimming privileges/penalty.

(ii)    Dorm H Renovation

Please be informed that the renovation of dorm H has started since 20 March 2017. The renovation of the dorm H is scheduled to be completed by end of May 2017

During this renovation period, there might be loud noise or disturbance on the pathway near dorm H. In this regard,  the Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM)  requests your kind understanding.

(iii)    Temporary Relocation of Photo Vending Machine from Administration to Cafeteria

Please be informed that due to the renovation of the ground floor of the Administration Building, the photo vending machine has been moved temporarily to Cafeteria (entrance opposite Korea House).
