Approved Policy and Procedure Statements

 

Please also be advised that based on the recommendation of the AIT Management, the President approved the following revised policy & procedure statements (P&Ps):

 

PA-4-1-1 Faculty Status

    * Added a section (V.) for Distinguished Adjunct Professor / Faculty

 

PA-1-2-9 Recruitment, Appointment and Contract Renewal of Direct-hire Professor of Practice

    * More concrete guidelines for contract renewal assessment of Professor of Practice faculty members.

    * Procedure for assessment of contract renewal of Professor of Practice faculty members.

 

These P&Ps are Intranet-published under Policies and Procedures.

 

Excerpt (below) from the revised Institute P&P on Credit Policy (FB-6-1-1), which were inadvertently not announced following their earlier confirmations/approval.

    FB-6-1-1 Credit Policy

    * Added II.5. "A student is charged a registration fee of Baht-20,000 per semester as standard fee to maintain the status and privileges of an AIT student. This also applies to students who are on research leave, sick leave, on exchange leave and for those who have been extended in their study program."

Appointments

AIT Chief Internal Auditor Appointed

 On 22 January 2015, Mr. Bishwakanta Gautam from Nepal joined AIT as the Chief Internal Auditor (CIA) in an independent office within the administration. The CIA is to report to the Audit Committee and the AIT President.

Mr. Gautam is a Certified Internal Auditor and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He has completed internal auditing, audit systems and capacity building, financial management and parliamentary capacity building related assignments in Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Timor-Leste, Cambodia and Laos in the capacity of a United Nations staff member and consultant under the World Bank and the EU-funded projects. As a civil servant, he served for twenty-one years within the Office of the Auditor General of Nepal, holding progressive responsibilities as Audit Officer, Director and Assistant Auditor General.

Campus Notes

 

AIT student presents projects at King Narai Military Camp

 

Two projects prepared by AIT were presented at the King Narai military camp on the occasion of Establishment Day at the King Narai Military Camp on 26 January 2015. Presenting the projects were Mr. Waqar Shahid, a doctoral student, and Dr. Mongkol Ekpanyapong, Assistant Professor of Microelectronics and Embedded Systems of AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET). The two projects include the fire detection system called “Quick Blaze” and a human motion detection system, both of which being developed at the  Vision Graphics Lab of AIT under the supervision of Dr. Matthew N Dailey and Dr. Mongkol, both of AIT’s SET.

New Visiting Professor at WEM

 

Prof. Arup Kumar Sarma joined Water Engineering and Management, School of Engineering and Technology as a Visiting Professor on 22 January 2015.

Prof. A. K. Sarma, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati was honored with prestigious B.P.Chaliha Chair Professor for Water Resources by Ministry of Water Resources, Govt. of India (2009-2014). He has to his credit more than 90 technical papers published in national and international journals, books and in conference proceedings.

 

Prof. Sarma has guided 49 M.Techs and 6 Ph.Ds in the field of Water Resources and at present 8 PhD research scholars are working with him. The NPTEL video course on Hydraulic Engineering developed by Prof. Sarma entered into the top 5 highest viewed course. He has completed 20sponsored research projects and 36 consultancy projects in India and internationally.

Survival Thai Course for Beginners / Basic Japanese Conversation Course / Basic French Conversation

 

The Language Center will organize a Survival Thai Course for Beginners to be held from 9 February to 1 April 2015 (20 hours) on Monday and Wednesday, from 17:00 - 18:30 hrs.

 

Course Fee: 2,000 baht. Class Size: 15 persons

Basic Japanese Conversation Course

 

The Basic Japanese Conversation Course will be organized by the Language Center from 24 February to 31 March 2015.

Course Fee: 750 baht. (No refunds available)
