Administrative Restructuring

Email from AIT President:

I am pleased to update the AIT community of some recent and ongoing changes in the AIT Management and administrative structure, which will take place from the first half of 2016.  A major administrative restructuring is intended to be completed by 1 July 2016.

 

A.      Vice Presidents

I am pleased to extend the part-time appointments of the following Vice Presidents for the six-month period from 1 January 2016 to 30 June 2016.  Subject to the approval of the AIT Board of Trustees, a revised administrative structure, including the Vice President structure, will be set up from 1 July 2016.

1. Professor Sivanappan Kumar as Vice President for Academic Affairs (50%); remaining 50% as Professor in Energy, School of Environment, Resources & Development;

2. Professor Kanchana Kanchanasut as Vice President for Research (50%); remaining 50% as Director of the Internet Education & Research Laboratory (intERLab); and

3. Professor Kazuo Yamamoto as Vice President for Resource Development (60%); remaining 40% with the University of Tokyo, Japan.

 

B.      School Deans

Last month, I invited the faculty members of the School of Engineering & Technology, as well as the School of Environment, Resources & Development to initiate an internal process and recommend acceptable candidates for the School Dean position from their respective Schools.

After thoughtful consideration and consultation, I am pleased to make the following full-time School Dean appointments for the two-year period from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2017, subject to the continuation of their appointments as faculty members in the Institute.

1. Professor Voratas Kachitvichyanukul as Dean of the School of Engineering & Technology; and

2. Professor Rajendra Prasad Shrestha as Dean of the School of Environment, Resources & Development.

3. Professor M Nazrul Islam continues to serve as interim Dean of the School of Management until a successful candidate is selected from the ongoing international recruitment process.

 

C.      Administrative Interim Appointments

While the restructuring and reorganization of the central administration is underway, as part of the administrative reform, I am pleased to make the following interim appointments with effect from 1 January 2016:

 

1. Mr Shawn Patrick Kelly as Acting Head of the External Relations & Communications Office (ERCO);

2. Ms Chalita Lertwinyu, Assistant to the President, to oversee the Royal Thai Government (RTG) and Government Relations Units (GRU), which shall later be integrated into one office;

3. Mr Karma Rana, Institute Secretary, to also be in charge of the Secretariat of the Board of Trustees and its Committees.

4. Ms Somnuk Yardpaka will assume interim responsibilities on student counselling.  The Student Counselling Unit will be formally established under the Student Office from 1 July 2016.

Indrajit Pal to lead project partnership

AIT has been selected as one of the partner institutes under the Australia-ASEAN Council Grant for the project ‘Disaster Resilience Education Capacity Building in South-East Asia’.

The Australia-ASEAN Council announced the project grantees (University of New Castle, Australia) for the inaugural grants for 2016-2017. The project will build a collaborative network between the University of Newcastle, Australia, the University of Science, Malaysia, the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, the University of the Philippines and the National University of Civil Engineering, Vietnam. The project partners will undertake a series of activities and expect to achieve the intended outcomes. On behalf of DPMM Dr. Indrajit Pal will lead this project partnership.

Fellowships available for January 2016 Semester

Please be informed that RTG fellowship will be available for January 2016 semester; however, each applicant will be granted only 12 credits (25%) RTG fellowship to cover the semester of January 2016. If an applicant needs to be offered more than 12 credits, the excess credits over the first 12 credits must be covered by AIT fellowships under the respective school budget. This will be applied to all schools and we have about 50 @ 12credits altogether to be used up in January. Any amount unused has to be returned to RTG.

AIT Library’s Year-End Break and New Year's Day

AIT Library will be closed from Friday 25th December 2015 through Sunday 3rd January 2016.

Schedule for the shut off of Chiller System/Centralized air conditioning system

As part of the campus development plan to upgrade the backbone for chiller system/centralized air conditioning system, Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM), has completed the phase-1, by installing two new cooling towers of 700 ton each and one new chiller of 600 ton. As per the operational observation, now operation of the chiller plant is more stable and the electricity consumption has reduced by 22% (Calculations details attached). 

To begin with the phase-2 of upgradation of chilled water distribution network, OFAM plans to replace old 18 valves with new once, inside the chiller plant. For which OFAM needs to shut off the chiller system for 10 days, as we need to drain out all the water from the pipes before we could replace the valves.

The schedule plan for the shut off of chiller system is as below

 

Date:   Thursday, 24 December – Sunday, 3 January 2016 (10 days)

Time:   18:00 – 16:00

Area affected:   All Academic Buildings inc. SET, SERD, AIT Extension,

Outreach, ET, CSIM, GIC, PPT, Biotech, ISE, SOM, AITCC, Admin, SU Building, Library, Physical Plant, and Dorm E, J & K

Note: The replacement of these valves will help to minimize the effected area during future shut off for chilled water distribution network upgradation.

 

Power supply shut down schedule during holiday period

As part of the campus development plan for the electricity system back bone up gradation, Office of Facilities and Asset Management plans to do the following tasks:

-  Preventive maintenance of all the substations in the campus and also assess the condition of all the major equipment, to further plan on up gradation at the substation level.

- Replacing faulty high voltage lines with new ones at substation 8 & 10.

- Repairing the main distribution board at ST6 and also lay new line at west end.

The above work has been scheduled during these holiday period as the work require shut of power supply for long period. Kindly note the below schedule of the shutdown of power supply.

Survey to assess the customer satisfaction of maintenance & services under OFAM

In July 2014, AIT contracted outsourced maintenance services (in replacement of Sodexo) for Technical maintenance, Janitorial services, Landscape Services, Security services,  AITCC management under the supervision of OFAM. Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM) asses the performance of the contractors on regular basis based on many Key Performance Indicators (KPI). One of the key indicators of the assessment of the contractors is customer satisfaction level. OFAM would like to know the satisfaction level of the community on how the services are being provided by the contractors. Your feedback will help us to asses and further improve their services.
