Owing to this transition, AIT has received requests from many potential AIT students in Thailand to extend the application deadline of 15 May 2015.

AIT Team visits Nepal

An AIT team comprising of  Mr. Gyanendra Sthapit, Director, AIT Habitech Center; Dr. Sangam Shrestha, Associate Professor, Water Engineering and Management, School of Engineering and Technology (SET); and Mr. Karma Rana, Institute Secretary, was assigned by the AIT Administration to visit Nepal from 5 – 11 May 2015, in the aftermath of great earthquake disaster on 25 April,  to conduct an on-the-spot survey to ascertain the needs of the country in relation to the Institute’s strength and resources.

The AIT team, joined by senior AIT alumni in Nepal, met with a wide array of stakeholders, which helped provide a broad overview of efforts being taken, at different levels. According to the AIT team, the primary focus was still on rescue and relief, but the longer term rebuilding and reconstruction aspects were also being considered, and it was an opportune occasion for AIT, to present areas, in which it could partner and assist in the efforts. The AIT team disclosed that all the different stakeholders commended AIT President Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai on the timeliness of sending an AIT team to Nepal, which was also viewed as a sign of genuine sincerity and goodwill on the part of AIT.

In follow up to AIT team’s visit, a summary report was submitted to AIT President Worsak. Also a brief report was prepared by an AIT structural engineering masters student from Nepal, Mr. Sandip Adhikari, who accompanied the AIT team, and inspected the performance of retrofitted school buildings and existing school buildings which are not retrofitted. This is related to an ADB project which AIT Consulting undertook in Nepal.

Proposed measures to address robbery issues in campus

OFAM was reported with many theft cases recently both in academic area (specially SERD) and residential area (specially ST6 & ST7). As per the investigation through police we were informed that the suspected thief at the SERD is an outsider intruding into AIT campus. The photos of the thief found in our CCTV footage is attached for your information. We are trying to get more clear photos recorded with the police. With reference to the below email that was send on 9th May to the residents, we would like to alter all the members of the AIT community to be more cautious and kindly intimate OFAM or Securitas if any person in the campus is found suspicious.

Proposed action plan by OFAM to address the issue:

1. We request all the AIT students staff & faculty to carry your ID card or at least copy of your ID Card. Securitas staff are informed check for the ID cards, if anyone is found suspicious. If ID card is not produced and he or she could not show any contact person in AIT,  they will be directly taken to OFAM and then to police if needed.

2. We encourage AIT community to take AIT cards of identification with separate colour code for residents, visitors, workers(renovation),vendors, maintenance staff (without uniform), so that we will be able to identify outsiders. (Residence card, vendor cards, maintenance staff cards could be collected from OFAM Call Centre and others could be collected from Gate-1 Securitas office).

3. Any person who will enter AIT campus through Vietnamese restaurant has to show the AIT ID card to the Securitas to enter into the campus.

4. Only vehicles with AIT stickers and people with AIT ID card and the residence cards or persons authorized by OFAM will be only allowed to enter through gate-2.

5. Any person found entering the campus through Gate-1 may be requested to produce the ID card by the Securitas for security purpose.

We request the kind support and cooperation of  the community to address the robbery issues in the campus and to make the campus safe and secured.
