“Regional Forum on Climate Change (RFCC) - Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Societies: Bridging Science, Practice, and Policy”

The Regional Forum on Climate Change (RFCC) will be organized jointly by the Asian Institute of Technology; French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development; ASEAN Secretariat, and the European Union (EU) from 1-3 July 2015 at the AIT Conference Center. The theme of the Conference is “Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Societies: Bridging Science, Practice and Policy.”

José Ramos-Horta, former President of Timor-Leste, United Nations Special Envoy and the 1996 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, will highlight the first day’s proceedings with a keynote speech.

Newly Appointed Thailand Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is AIT Alumnus

On behalf of AIT Community, I would like to congratulate Dr. Kasemsun Chinnavaso who was appointed by the Royal Thai Government Cabinet on 26 May 2015 to serve as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MINRE).

Dr. Kasemsun graduated from the Division of Human Settlement and Development (HSD) in 1986, and proceeded to obtain his doctoral degree in Labor Economics from University of Norte Dame in the United States.

Before this prestigious appointment, Dr Kasemsun served as Director Generals of most departments in MINRE and the Secretary-General of Office of National Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning.

My big congratulations to Dr Kasemsun for carrying the AIT flag in serving our host country.

Campus Updates

 

Announcement of the closing of SCB AIT branch

Please be informed that The Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) will soon close its branch office at AIT with the last operating date set for June 12, 2015.  SCB will still continue to provide one ATM machine at the same location, but there will no longer be cash deposit and passbook update machines.

AIT new SCB bank accounts

With the closure of the SCB branch at AIT, the account number and branch details of the accounts opened at the SCB branch at AIT will also change.

The Institute will maintain its operating accounts with SCB, but at its new branch located next to Thammasat University Hospital.

Personal SCB account – Faculty/staff

AIT has already received from SCB the mapping of old/current accounts with the new account numbers for all faculty/staff/students.

The Payroll Unit of Finance will update the new account numbers in its database after the May 2015 salary has been paid.  Copies of the new bank account number from faculty/staff are not required.

For those who want to move their salary accounts from SCB to Kasikorn Bank, this can be done only after the June 2015 salary is paid.  Please provide Payroll/Finance a copy of the new Kasikorn Bank account before the 15th of each month.

Please also be informed that SCB pay salary on the same day AIT submit the payroll data; while Kasikorn Bank will pay the following day.

Student SCB account

For students who has bursary account with SCB, it will be the same procedure as faculty/staff personal SCB account described above.

For new students, AIT selected Kasikorn Bank for safety reasons. Kasikorn Bank will open a temporary booth on AIT campus once or twice a year to facilitate the opening of new bank accounts for AIT students and other members of the AIT community.

SU launches bike rental service for AIT community

The AIT Student Union (January-2015) has launched bicycle rental service for the AIT community, especially those who need bicycles for temporary usage. With the financial support from AIT Alumni Association (AITAA) and AIT Chinese Alumni, 11 new bicycles are available for renting out.

The bicycle renter should comply with following terms and conditions:

1)  The AIT Community can rent the bike by showing original (student, faculty, staff) ID and leave one ID copy at SU office.

2) Special Trainee can use their training program agenda and passport copy.

3) Rental rate is as follow:

a.       10 baht per day and 50 baht per week for student + 200 baht refundable deposit.

b.      20 bath per day and 100 baht per week for non-student (faculty, staff, special trainee) + 500 baht refundable deposit.

4) User is completely responsible for any damages, accidents and lost.

5) If user is absent to compensate for damage and lost, SU will ask to respective office (SIS, HRS and so on) to charge actual cost of remedy.

6) User can hold the bike maximum one week and can increase the renting period if there is no waiting list.

 

Campus picnic spot area behind Dorm-X

The SU Campus and Environment Team is pleased to announce that AIT community can relax at picnic spot  located  behind Dorm- X with the following facilities: tables and branches, light, water tap, BBQ stands (halal and non-halal), garbage bins.

This will be a good place for organizing parties and gatherings. Interested persons please reserve picnic spot area by emailing to Campus & Environment Committee (sucamenvi.ait@gmail.com) one day in advance.

There are also BBQ stands (halal and non-halal) available for rent from SU office with the deposit fee of 300 baht. When the party is over, please clean BBQ stands properly and bring them back to the SU office and refund your deposit money.

Last but not least, please use the area properly and keep it clean. This is your campus. Enjoy and feel the nature with your friends at the new AIT picnic spot!
