 1) International Women's Day | Panel Discussion on Women and Oceans

Join us for a Documentary film screening and Panel Discussion on “Women and Oceans!

The Embassy of France in Thailand, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) cordially invite you to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2022 with women scientists from France and Thailand on March 8, 2022, at 6PM, Alliance Française Bangkok and Online.

Healthy oceans are key to conserving the health and wellbeing of our planet, and important sources of livelihoods for billions around the world. Addressing global challenges through science has long been a sector where women are underrepresented. Although progress has been made in ensuring equal opportunities for women in science, there is still a big gap in ensuring women can thrive at higher levels.

To commemorate the International Women’s Day and raise awareness on women and oceans, join us at the hybrid event to listen to inspirational stories of women oceanographers, marine biologists, global environmental lawyers who have been engaged in studies and research on the ocean and its interaction with the environment.

Documentary Film:  The Tonga Oceanographic Expedition

Synopsis: The Tonga mission takes you aboard the French oceanographic vessel Atalante in search of shallow underwater volcanoes to understand and anticipate the consequences of fluid emanations on marine life and climate. The expedition, led by two researchers, Sophie Bonnet (oceanographer, IRD) and Cécile Guieu (oceanographer, CNRS), analyzes and studies the consequences of trace elements from shallow hydrothermal sources to determine their potential impact on marine productivity and the biological carbon pump.

3) World Water Day 2022 - Photo Competition

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Asia Centre jointly announces a “Photo Competition” on the occasion of World Water Day 2022 (March 22) with the theme of “Groundwater – Making the Invisible Visible.”  

The photo competition is open to all AIT Community and SUMERNET Network Members.

4) AIA Insurance Coverage for Covid-19 Treatment in Hospital and Home Isolation

Dear AIA Insurance Members, 

The Ministry of Public Health has announced the medical guidelines for physicians and medical personnel in providing patient advice and assessment for home isolation service for Covid-19 patients.  The revised guidelines specify the criteria to be considered an "inpatient", or to be considered for hospital admission, the patient must have one of the following symptoms:

Fever higher than 39 Celsius lasting more than 24 hours

In adults, breathing faster than 25 breaths per minute

Oxygen Saturation of less than 94%

Has underlying health conditions that requires close monitoring at the discretion of the physician

In children, shortness of breath, drowsiness, and decreased milk or food intake

Therefore, in the event that the insured is confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 and meets the medical criteria for for inpatient treatment (IPD) stated above, the inured is covered under the Inpatient Benefit (IPD). In the event that the insured has been confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 but does not meet the criteria according to the above conditions, including those with mild symptoms and receiving Home Isolation or Community Isolation care, they will not be eligible for coverage under the Inpatient Benefit (IPD).

For treatment in hospitel, insured member must meet one of the above criteria in order to be covered under the Inpatient Benefit (IPD). Insured members receiving treatment in home isolation, but does not meet any of the above criteria, will be covered under Outpatient Benefit (OPD).  

These new guidelines for consideration of claim has been implemented accross all  insurance companies from February 15, 2022 onwards.
