A.    Announcements

 

(i)    SET welcomes new Visiting Associate Professors seconded  by Indian Government

School of Engineering and Technology welcomes Dr. Ajay K. S. Singholi and Dr. Tonse Laxminidhi who have joined Industrial Systems Engineering Group as Visiting Associate Professors. They have been seconded by the Government of India.

Dr. Ajay K. S. Singholi, an Associate Visiting Professor at Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) Program, is teaching Advanced Manufacturing Processes (AT 73.02) in August 2016 semester.

Dr. Ajay K. S. Singholi received a Ph.D. (Mechanical Engineering) degree from University School of Engineering and Technology, Indraprastha University, Delhi, India in 2013. His Master’s degree (Masters of Technology) is in Engineering Systems (Manufacturing Systems) from Faculty of Engineering, Dayalbagh University, Agra; 2002. He had completed his Bachelor’s degree of engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Dayalbagh University, Agra, India in the year 2000. He has more than 14 years of experience of teaching UG and PG students in various prestigious universities in India such as Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University, Agra University and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Delhi.

He is head of the department (Mechanical and automation engineering) at his parent institute in India i.e. G.B. Pant Government Engineering College, Delhi, and is also heading the office of training and placements. He was the founding programme coordinator of Master of Technology (Robotics and Automation) programme at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University of Women, India. He has been involved in various academic activities such as revision of syllabus at UG and PG level, key role in the curriculum committee for MBA programme in “Enterprise Systems” (Weekend) launched by Mechanical and Automation Department in Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University of Women. He is a life member of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering and Indian Society for Technical Education.

His research interests are:
Advanced manufacturing methods, flexible manufacturing systems, flexibility in manufacturing, automation in manufacturing, mechanical concepts in mechatronics, operations management and related research areas.

Dr. Tonse Laxminidhi, a Visiting Associate Professor at Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) Group, is teaching a course AT81.05 Analog Integrated Circuits Design at AIT for the semester commencing from August 2016.

In India, Tonse Laxminidhi is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, India. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in 2008. He has a Master’s Degree in Industrial Electronics from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, India in the year 1998. He obtained B.Tech. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, India (affiliated to Mangalore University) in 1996.

His research interests include analog and mixed mode integrated circuits and power management circuits. He has an experience of 18 years of experience in academia.

(ii)    Extended library hours during mid-semester exams

During mid-semester exams period, from 19 - 29 September 2016, AIT Library will extend the library hours to one o'clock in the morning every day.  The library hours will be as follows.

(vi)    Scholarships for Summer School, 3-8 October 2016 at Ateneo de Manila University Philippines (ADMU)

Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines and Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), Heidelberg University, Germany, are jointly organizing a summer school in Manila, Philippines from 3-8 October 2016.

The Summer School brings together experts from Germany and the Philippines to lecture on various topics of Scientific Computing.

Main topics for Summer School on Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing are “Partial Differential Equations with application in Environmental Physics”.

(ix)    Personal data for Income Tax

To ensure that personal income tax of AIT faculty and staff comply with Tax Regulation, it is imperative that we have a correct record of your personal data in our system. Please log in the web link, https://hris.ait.ac.th  to update your personal data. Use your AIT email account credential to log in then click “View Employee Profile”.  Furthermore, please update or complete your contact information such as the name and telephone number of your emergency contact person.

For employees with children, particular attention is required in the status of your children in the system, check if it is correct. Update the system if they are studying or working either here in Thailand or abroad. Please request to amend as appropriate.  

Any changes on your personal data from previous to current year should be supported with documents in hard copies. These include passport copy, marriage certificate, birth certificates of your children as well as receipts of investment in RTF/LTF and personal life insurance.

Please submit it to Khun Denphoom in the Office of the Human Resources Services (OHRS), Room 223, Second Floor of the Administration Building within 23 September 2016.

(a)    Osotspa Plant Tour: 19 Oct. 2016 ( Deadline of registration is 23 Sept. 2016)

SU External Affairs invites current AIT students to join its special field trip to Osotspa, whose brand owner of M-150 and Shark energy drink. Their businesses are expanding world wide more than 15 countries across Asia and West coast. Osotspa factory is located in Ayuthaya province. Studens will  have the opportunity to experience 3D e-learning and visiting glass bottle manufacturing together with drink filling processes.

Faculty and staff members are welcomed to join. However, the priority will be provided for students.

(a)    Special lecture on Climate Risk Informed Decision Analysis: 19 Sept 2016, 2.30pm, MEB Auditorium

Climate Change Asia (CCA) is organizing a special lecture on "Climate Risk Informed Decision Analysis" for AIT students, staff and faculty. The speaker is John Kucharski who is leading the implementation of the CRIDA framework for the Iolanda Water Treatment Plant in Lusaka, Zambia.
John Kucharski is a senior economist at the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Institute for Water Resources Hydrologic Engineering Center located in Davis, CA. In this role he is the Corps subject matter expert in the field of risk assessment. Internationally John works with foreign water resource and development agencies to build their capacity to solve complex or controversial water resource problems through systems modeling, structure stakeholder engagement and the use of traditional planning approaches – known collectively as shared vision planning. He also works with international institutions and foreign governments on the development of risk-scaled climate adaptation strategies – sometimes referred to as bottom-up climate change approaches.

(b)    Design of Tall Buildings: Trends and Advancements for Structural Performance: 7 – 9 Nov. 2016 (seminar) and 10 - 12 Nov. 2016 (workshop)

AIT Solutions will organize the “Design of Tall Buildings: Trends and Advancements for Structural Performance” Seminar and Workshop from 7 – 9 November and 10 – 12 November 2016, respectively.

The event will provide participants with an insight to the new developments in tall building design, innovative structural systems for better performance and in-depth understanding of structural behavior and highlight the value of wind tunnel test, probabilistic seismic hazard assessment, peer reviews and performance-based design. It also will focus on hands on understanding of modeling and analysis.

(i)    Commencement of Chalerm Prakiat (ISE) Building’s  brick walkway repair

Please be informed that the contractor will begin the repair of Chalerm Prakiat (ISE) Building’s brick walkway on Monday, 19 September 2016.
The estimated period of repair is 1 month. In order to commence the repair, the whole brick walkway in front of the building will be closed.
Students, faculty, staff and visitors of ISE building can access the building through the alternate way.  TM will provide the signage to show the alternate directions.
