 (i) AIT welcomes seconded faculty from India

AIT welcomes the following visiting faculty members who are seconded by the Government of India in August 2019 semester:
 
Prof T Kishore Kumar
Prof. T. Kishore Kumar joined AIT as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Telecommunications (ICT), School of Engineering and Technology (SET). He is seconded by the Government of India.  
 
 
Prof. T. Kishore Kumar joined AIT as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Telecommunications (ICT), School of Engineering and Technology (SET). He is seconded by the Government of India.  
 
Prof. Kumar is Head of the Institute Computer Center and Professor at Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NIT Warangal.
Prior to this he was the Head Department of ECE NIT Warangal during 2015 to 2017, Head Center for Automation & Instrumentation (CAI) from 2009 to 2015 and Member of E&ICT Academy at NIT Warangal. He is also a Member of – Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE).
 
He was awarded Best Engineering Researcher Award – 2017 from National Institute of Technology,
Warangal and NITW Alumni Association, in recognition of outstanding research, consultancy and training in the field of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Research excellence award-2017 from Institute for Exploring Advances in Engineering (IEAE).

Dr. K. Sarat Kumar
Dr. K. Sarat Kumar joined AIT as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Telecommunications (ICT) School of Engineering and Technology (SET).  He is seconded by the Indian Government and was selected under MHRD-AIT Faculty Secondment scheme (August to November 2019) for academics and research related to Satellite Communications. He was a guest faculty at LBSNAA, Mussoorie for communications and disaster management training and lectures to civil and allied services officers (in 2005, 2012). 
 
Dr. K. Sarat Kumar received the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Electronics from Nagarjuna University, India in 1999 and 2001 respectively, later Master of Technology with specialization in Radar & Microwave Engineering (ECE) from Andhra University, India in 2004.  He obtained Doctoral degree in Electronics from Sri Venkateswara University, India in 2009 and for his research work he utilised the facilities of ACAS, NARL and research data from Master Control Facility of ISRO along with European Space Agency, The Netherlands, for the thesis entitled “INSAT Ku and Ka-band Propagation Impairment studies”. Out of his interest, he obtained the AMIETE (Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering) degree from IETE, New Delhi and also holds Law degree.

Dr. Shiv Kumar Gupta
 
Dr. Shiv Kumar Gupta joined Industrial System Engineering, SET, as a visiting associate faculty in August 2019 semester. He is currently an associate professor at Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India. He obtained his Ph.D. (2008) in Optimization (Duality theory, Generalized convexity) from IIT, Roorkee, India. He is seconded by the Government of India.
During his stay at ISE/SET, Dr. Gupta will teach AT72.01, Deterministic Optimization Models course.

Dr. Sujit Gajananrao Metre
Dr. Sujit Gajananrao Metre joined Industrial System Engineering, SET, as a visiting associate faculty in August 2019 semester. Seconded by the Government of India, he is currently a professor at Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies & Research, Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur. He obtained PhD (2006) in Commerce-Investment Management. He has 22 years of experience and has acquired BE Electronics), MBA(Finance), MA (Economics), M Com (International Business) degrees. He is a SEBI empaneled Financial Education Resource Person. He is recognized PhD supervisor and is currently the member of Board of Studies at RTM, Nagpur University, India.
During his stay at ISE/SET, Dr. Metre will teach AT72.04, Engineering Economy course.

Dr. Nagarjuna Nallam
Dr. Nagarjuna Nallam joined Industrial System Engineering, SET, as a visiting associate faculty in August 2019 semester. He is seconded by the Government of India. He received the M.Tech and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, New Delhi, India, in 2009 and 2014, respectively. From 2013 to 2014, he was with the Synopsys, Hyderabad, as a Senior Research and Development Engineer. Since 2014, he has been a faculty member with the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, IIT Guwahati, Assam, India. His current research interests include circuit theory, filters, and analog integrated circuits.
During his stay at ISE/SET, Dr. Nallam will teach AT81.05 Analog Integrated Circuit course.

Dr. Neeraj Pandey
Dr. Neeraj Pandey joined AIT as a Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Food, Agriculture and Bioresources (FAB-ASE) of School of Environment, Resources and Development.
Seconded by the Government of India, he is also Area Coordinator and Associate Professor in Marketing at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai, India. He did his post-doctoral research at Johns Hopkins University, USA in the area of Pricing. His research interests are pricing, digital marketing, B2B marketing, and services marketing.

Dr. Jagdish Singh
Dr. Jagdiah Singh joined AIT as a Visiting Professor in Department of Development and Sustainability, Urban Environmental Management, School of Environmental Resource and Development. He is seconded by the Government of India for August 2019 semester.
Dr. Jagdish Singh is Professor in the Architecture and Planning Departments at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology Bhopal, MP, India.
Dr. Singh’s professional experience of more than 26 years encompasses teaching, training, research and consulting services in the field of Architecture, Conservation, Urban Planning, Environmental Design and Ground Water Resources. He is elected council member Institute of Town Planners India 2015-16, 2016-17,2017-18 and 2018-19.

(xi) Online Performance Appraisal 2019 (covering the period 1 July 2018-30 June 2019)

To all immediate supervisors and Unit Directors of direct-hire (centrally-funded) staff members,
Please be informed that the online performance appraisal for this year 2019, covering the period from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019, is now open. The annual online performance appraisal process was implemented in July 2014 following the approval of AIT Management.
The online system can be accessed through the “PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL” link in the HRIS menu (https://hris.ait.ac.th ).  The immediate supervisors are able to now complete the individual Performance Appraisal Reports for all employees under their supervision, and submit them individually (electronically).  The Unit Heads shall then review and endorse all completed Performance Appraisal Reports not later than 12 September 2019.
The online / web-based system has archived the appraisal results from 2014 (“Appraisal History” link in the HRIS menu) and will build up annual data that will be available to directors / immediate supervisors and AIT Management.
The performance appraisal process will be carried out in conjunction with the annual budget process.  These annual performance appraisal results will be used for the purpose of determining the annual salary adjustment and staff training and development needs and will be taken into consideration in preparing the 2020 year budgets.

 (a) Blood Donation: 5 Sept. 2019

The Thai Red Cross Society has been working with volunteer students and staff to collect units of blood from the AIT community. The bloodmobile visits AIT every three months, four times a year, hoping to collect enough units to supply the constant demand for blood.

We again would like to ask for your help. The next visit for blood donation is scheduled on Thursday, 5 September 2019, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. at the parking lot in front of the AIT Conference Center.

Give blood! You'll experience a fulfilling sense of contribution. And the donation process isn't time-consuming. It only takes about half an hour. For more information about blood donation please see the attached.

(b) "100 Innovations and Entrepreneurs": 27 – 28 Sept. 2019

The 2nd Phase Bridging Program is being conducted by Language Center from 30 July – 14 September 2019. The program is conducted from 9am - 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, except the Mother's Day weekend.

(b) English writing courses (EL courses): 26 Aug. – 14 Nov. 2019

The registration for Academic English (EL) classes for the August 2019 Semester is now open. The deadline for EL registration is on Friday 16th August 2019 (also deadline for Adding/Dropping date for Schools).

CLASSES: 26 August – 14 November 2019

Students with English scores below AIT’s admission requirements will be automatically enrolled in the mandatory English Language (EL) courses listed below. Students will need to pay a one-time registration fee of 5,000 Baht at the AIT Cashier for EL courses. The EL course level will be automatically assigned based on a student’s current English score:
5.0 - EL15 Intermediate English Composition
5.5 - EL19 Academic and Technical Writing

***English course fee: 5,000 Baht one-time flat fee to all newly enrolled students.***
The EL courses should be your first priority. Therefore scheduling problems and conflicts are not valid reasons to request to drop out of EL courses. To drop the course, you will need to submit a memo requesting the EL exemption on a semester basis. This memo will need to be approved by your advisor and submitted to the Language Center before 16 August 2019 (AIT adding/dropping date). If you fail to drop the EL course you are enrolled in before the 6th September, you will still be graded for the EL course you have enrolled.

(c) Thai and Japanese Courses for Beginners: Aug. – Oct. 2019

The Language Center announces the opening of Thai and Japanese courses for Beginners as follows:

• Survival Thai Course for Beginners

The 7-week survival Thai course is an introduction to Thai languages which will cover basic words, phrases, daily and simple expressions and basic grammatical structures to communicate with Thais. The purpose of the course is to introduce participants to the principles and basic of Thai language as used in everyday conversation. Moreover, the course will prepare them to feel confident to communicate with Thais and feel at ease while staying in Thailand.

Group 1:   19 August  – 18 September 2019, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 17:00 – 18:30, 3 days a week

Group 2:   26 August  – 9 October 2019, Monday and Wednesday from 18:30 – 20:00, 2 days a week

Total of 20 hours

Course fee: 2,000 baht

• Thai Reading and Writing Course for Beginners

This course is the introduction to reading and writing. It is the 7-week course that is designed for those who do not know how to read and write Thai language. The participants will practice reading letters and learn how to spell words and create sentences.

27 August – 10 October 2019, Tuesday and Thursday from 17:00 – 18:30

Total of 20 hours

Course fee: 2,000 baht

•  Japanese Course  for Beginners

Class dates: September 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 30 (No classes on Sept 23, 25) October 2, 7, 9, 16

The class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 pm (total 10 sessions)

(d) Training- SCOPUS and ScienceDirect for the researcher: 10 Sept. 2019 

AIT Library and Elsevier Publisher will be hosting training on Scopus and ScienceDirect for the researcher.

The trainer profile:

Dr. Kelwalin Dhanasarnsombut is a customer consultant from Elsevier. She obtained her Ph.D. in Cell, Animal, and Population Biology from Edinburgh University (UK), where she researched in the genetics of malaria parasite and vaccine development. Kelwalin helped to evaluate research projects of 9 national research universities in Thailand funded by the Office of the Higher Education Commission. Before she has joined Elsevier, Kelwalin was a scientific consultant and patent specialist for the intellectual properties law firm.

AIT Extension will organize Insurance Professional Training Program - International Series NON-LIFE INSURANCE FOCUS: The Practical Aspects of Reinsurance Batch 2

Duration: 25-27 September 2019

This 3-day program will examine the fundamentals and practical aspects of treaty and facultative reinsurance. In addition to the nuts and bolts of reinsurance, you will learn from a practicing treaty reinsurer on ways to assess a reinsurer’s financial security and how a reinsurer would evaluate your treaty program and price them.

(f)Professional Training Program on Advanced Shrimp Farming: 3 – 10 Nov. 2019

A professional training program on advanced shrimp farming will be organized by AIT Extension from 03-10 November 2019 (including international travel) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).

“Advanced Shrimp Farming” is a one-week long professional training program, which has been designed to address not only the lack of know-how and issues with farming practices but also to meet the specific needs and requirements for the development of this venture in the region. The program will cover the state of the art of farming practices, existing good practices, innovation and advanced technologies in farming and shrimp healthcare along with planning and management of environmental issues with shrimp farming.
