Confirmed Notes of AIT Management Team: 30 October 2014

New Task Force on AIT Salary Structure and Position Classification

The Management Team on 20 November 2014 decided to constitute a special Task Force on Salary Structure and Position Classification for AIT. The Task Force includes: Prof. Sununta Siengthai of School of Management as Chair. Members will include Prof. Visvanathan Chettiyappan, Dean of School of Environment, Resources and Development (Faculty Representative); Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Director, AIT Extension (Staff Representative), Mrs. Izel Ann Mojado-Dante, Head Administration; Dr. Naveed Anwar, Director, AIT Consulting; and Mr. Bajinder Pal Singh, Senior News and Media Specialist, Media and Communications Unit. The Task Force will work to produce a recommendation in 2015 for implementation in January 2016.

MT to be Steering Committee for Library Renovation and Modernization

The President advised the Management Team to be the Steering Committee for the AIT Library Renovation and Modernization project.

New Web Portal: Annual Summary of Faculty Activities

Vice President for Academic Affairs Prof. S. Kumar has developed a new web portal for faculty members to update their annual summary of activities. The website will be launched soon and is seen as a usual tool for archiving the work and accomplishments of all AIT faculty members.

Condolences

Khun Samai Kamwat, AARM Field Worker, passes away

The AIT community was saddened by the news of the passing away of Khun Samai Kamwat, Field Worker in AARM, School of Environment, Resources and Development on the morning of 20 November 2014 at his home. Mr. Samai joined AIT in 1994 and was re-employed in July 2007 until recently. He was considered as the backbone of the AARM daily activities, full with enthusiasm and highly motivated.  Often times, colleagues asked for his opinions in their work plans. He had a strong sense of duty. He was never tardy and seldom missed any workdays.  His hardworking spirit and example will be forever remembered. 

The AIT Community expresses our heartfelt condolence to his bereaved family.

Deepest Sympathy to Ms. Kim Escobin

The AIT Community would like to express our condolences and sympathies to Ms. Kim Escobin, Quality Assurance Manager in AIT Consulting, whose father, Mr. Rectorino Escobin, passed away on 16 November 2014 in the Philippines.

A Year-end party for AIT employees on Friday, December 19th

“We’re throwing a party and you’ll have a blast as we ring in the New Year and say goodbye to 2014!”

The Office of the President will organize a year-end party for all AIT employees. Please mark your calendar for 19 December 2014 – bring your appetite and be prepared for lots of fun and surprises! It will be a whole day event with games, raffle draw, and lunch while a live band will serenade us all through. So watch out for our announcement for more details.

Introducing “MyVision AIT”

My Vision AIT is the first chapter of its kind in Thailand and South East Asia. It is   a student-led organization that strives to raise awareness about social business at AIT and its surrounding communities by empowering students to solve social problems through enterprise-led development. Recent events of MyVision AIT include: MyVision AIT team launching Party was held at SU Café on Friday, 14 November, with over 60 participants joining the event. The event included introduction of MV AIT team and an announcement of the logo competition winner; MyVision AIT and Yunus Center are conducting a survey within AIT to find out the most pressing social problems for young people around the globe.

AIT International School updates

* Visitors to AITIS need to get permission from the school office before entering the school premises for safety reasons.

* AITIS will be organizing the “360◦ Genius Boost Kids’ Brain Development with Enfagrow A+ UHT” project for the students of Pre-K section on Thursday, 27 November 2014. The project is aimed at facilitating all-around progress that is fundamental for the development of kindergarten children using an interactive animation with story drama.

Events

25th Asian School on Computer Science

The Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab) will organize the 25th Asian School on Computer Science on 24 November 2014 at AIT. The Asian School on Computer Science is one of the longest-running series of short courses conducted by distinguished researchers enabling local participants from the Asia Pacific Region an opportunity to meet with leading researchers.

This year, IntERLab has invited Prof. Mario Gerla, a Professor from Computer Science Department at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) ,to conduct a one-day course held at AIT.

Workshop on Technology Solutions for Low-Cost Housing

A two-day workshop on technology solutions for low-cost housing is being organized by AIT from 27 - 28 November 2014, through Habitech Center and AIT Consulting. Carrying the theme, Building Cleaner, Greener, Safer, and Cost-Effective Communities, this workshop is designed to demonstrate technological solutions to help achieve cost-effectiveness, sustainability, disaster resilience, and long-term durability for a variety of housing developments and civic infrastructure.

Nomination needs for AXA Chair Program

The AXA Research Fund has called for application for the AXA Chair program. AIT successfully qualified for the first round to submit applications under the program.

The Chair funded by the AXA Research Fund aims at creating an academic full-time position in the host institution and at fostering a step-change in the career of the appointed AXA Professor.

The application deadline for the AXA Chair program is 5 December 2014 and until 29 May, 2015 for the second round.

Please submit your nomination by Monday, 24 November 2014 to allow sufficient time to select one for submission to AXA by 5 December 2015.

Call for Applications for AXA Junior Research Fellowships

The AXA Research Fund has called for applications for their AXA Junior Research Fellowships. AIT is registered in the AXA Research Fund’s database and has successfully qualified the first round to submit applications under the programs. AIT can nominate up to two candidates.

Profile of Candidate: A Junior Research Fellow can only be presented through one institution and must not be holding his/her permanent academic position. The candidate must have been awarded his first PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) within the 5 years preceding the submission of the proposal for the Post-Doctoral Fellowship campaign.

Please send nominations (name of the proposed junior research fellow) for the program by 1 December 2014 (only name and contact details is needed) to vpaa@ait.asia and scpo@ait.asia. AIT will send the names to AXA by 8 December 2014. AXA will contact the proposed fellow, who will fill the application form for selection (not by AIT).
