2) Announcement: Government-Industry-Academia Policy Trialogue 2025

I am very pleased to announce that the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is organizing the upcoming “Government-Industry-Academia Policy Trialogue 2025to be held on 28 November 2025, from 9:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs at the AIT Conference Center.

This event will bring together key stakeholders from government, industry, and academia to discuss and collaborate on policies related to climate change, resources, infrastructure, technology, and business management. It aims to provide the AIT community and the invited participants with valuable insights into current and future trends, emerging challenges, and potential research topics in policy-related areas. 

The morning session will feature five keynote speeches delivered by Government Executives, Ambassador and Embassy Representative, while the afternoon session will include three panel discussions with Distinguished industry leaders. The event details are enclosed herewith for your information.

4) Call for Volunteers for the IWA Water and Development Congress & Exhibition 2025

Introduction:

The International Water Association is organising the Water and Development Congress & Exhibition (WDCE2025) that will be held from 8th to 12th December 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. Co-hosted by Asian Institute of Technology, the Congress will bring together global stakeholders from across the industry, including scientists, academics, water professionals, utilities, regulators and engineers, to discuss water and sanitation issues within low- and middle-income countries.

The theme of this year’s Congress is Water, sanitation, and innovation – pathways to progress and a resilient future. This exciting event will host a number of plenary sessions with keynote speakers from the water industry, as well as over 160 technical sessions and workshops, built around five thematic tracks:

  • Ensure Safe Drinking Water: Innovative approaches for treatment and supply.
  • Advancing Wastewater Treatment and Sanitation Services: Sustainable solutions for all.
  • Smart Water Management: Integrated approaches for effective water management and planning.
  • Enhancing Utility Management and Operations for Sustainable Growth.
  • Strengthening Governance and Financial Systems for Long-Term Development.

We are inviting motivated volunteers looking forward to attending the congresses, and happy to contribute and be part of its success by assisting in various roles. This will be in exchange of a student delegate ticket that gives them full access to the over 120 technical sessions, workshops, forums and exhibition.

Volunteer roles at the WDCE2025 in Bangkok

-            Supporting registration and delegate services

-            Assisting with session rooms, workshops, and exhibitions

-            Guiding participants and exhibition visitors around the venue

-            Providing logistical support to speakers and panellists

-            Helping with communications, media, and outreach activities

For a rich and varied experience, each volunteer will be deployed to different stations over the days of the Congress.

Detailed guidance regarding roles and responsibilities and describing how to perform the tasks above will be provided after recruitment.

What you get in return

1.        Volunteers will receive 100% waiver on their congress registration fee.

2.        Fantastic networking opportunities with global water leaders, researchers and practitioners

3.        Hands on experience in the delivery of a world class event that addresses urgent water and sanitation challenges in low- and middle-income countries

This will be in exchange of a total of only 10 hours of your volunteer time throughout the Congress days. This translates to 2 (two) hours of your time per day of the congress.

Please note that part of the volunteer roles will begin on Sunday 7th December 2025.

  • University students, young professionals, and individuals interested in water and sanitation issues
  • Friendly, reliable, and enthusiastic team players
  • Individuals comfortable working in an international and multicultural environment
  • Those available during the Congress dates: 8th to 12th December, plus a short briefing/training prior to the event
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.

5)  Week 7 & 8 Yellow Bin Observation – Continued Progress & Key Reminders - sorting consistency declined

Dear Student, Staff, Faculty and AIT Community,

The Office of Sustainable Campus (OSC) would like to share the consolidated findings from Week 7 and Week 8 of the Waste Management Model monitoring, with particular attention to the performance of yellow bins (plastic and paper recyclables). These observations were conducted across student dormitories, faculty and staff housing, and academic areas with the support of OSC student assistants and volunteers.

While we appreciate the efforts of many community members, the results indicate some areas of concern—especially among certain residential family units and recurring non-compliance with waste-sorting guidelines by janitorial staff in academic zones. As a postgraduate, sustainability-driven institution, we trust that our community understands the significant impacts of mismanaged plastic waste on human health and the environment.

 

Executive summary

  • Community participation remains strong and many bins appear cleaner overall.
  • However, sorting consistency declined in Week 7 and issues persisted through Week 8.
  • Main problems: opaque/black bags, unrinsed food containers, mixed-waste single bags, misplaced organic waste, disposable masks/tissues in yellow bins, and recurring Styrofoam.
  • These behaviors increase sorting time, raise contamination risk, and reduce recyclability.

Key findings (Week 7 + Week 8)

  • Sorting habits: Decline in correct at-source sorting; 
  • Bag types: Frequent use of black/opaque bags prevents visual checks; transparent or no-bag disposal improves sorting speed and accuracy.
  • Contamination: Food containers are often not rinsed, causing odor and mold risks; mixed single-bag disposal hampers recycling; Styrofoam reappeared in multiple locations.
  • Misplaced items: Organic waste (leaves, branches, dust) and disposable masks/tissues were observed in yellow bins; refer to attached slides in Student Village area and few Staff units

Simple reminders for everyone

  • Segregate at home & at the source into three categories
  • Use transparent bags or no bag for yellow-bin recyclables.
  • Rinse, dry, and flatten food and drink containers before disposal.
  • Place organic waste in green bins for composting.
  • Dispose of masks, Styrofoam, and tissues in general/landfill bins, not in yellow bins.
  • Avoid Styrofoam where possible; use recyclable or compostable alternatives.
  • Report peeling labels or overflowing bins to OSC so we can act promptly.

Waste Segregation Pledge—still open

  • Join the AIT Waste Segregation Pledge to receive a personal segregation bin for your dorm room.
  • Pledged bins will remain for future residents to help embed good habits across cohorts.
  • Sign-up details are available through OSC—pledge to support AIT’s NetZero and zero-waste goals.

Ongoing OSC initiative—E-Waste Management Campaign

  • Please identify and separate unused or obsolete electronics such as chargers, phones, laptops, monitors, printers, keyboards, and power banks.
  • For office e-waste, email director-osc@ait.ac.th for collection guidance.
  • For personal e-waste, drop items at the AIT Store (OFAM premises).
  • OSC and OPIA will ensure environmentally responsible handling and disposal.
  • Academic Write-Offs Due 20 Nov; Community Drop-Offs by 26 Nov

6)  Major Cricket Events to be Held at AIT: ICC Emerging Women’s Trophy 2025 & 33rd SEA Games 2025

Please be informed that two major cricket events will be held at our Multi-Purpose Cricket/Football Grounds as follows:
 
1. ICC Emerging Women's Trophy 2025
Practice Date: 16 to 18 November 2025
Tournament Date: 19 to 30 November 2025
 
2. 33rd SEA Games 2025 (Cricket)
Tournament Date: 9 to 19 December 2025
 
During the SEA Games, we would like the community to be aware of the traffic flow (vehicles and pedestrians) in the vicinity of the Multi-Purpose Cricket/Football Grounds.
 
May we also request that the community refrain from using the main grounds from tomorrow until 21 December 2025. This period will be used for preparation, the actual events, and the dismantling of the game setups.

2025 11th International Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Automation Science (ICMEAS 2025) will be held in Bangkok, Thailand during December 11-14, 2025, which is organized by Hong Kong Society of Mechanical Engineers (HKSME), sponsored by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University - Nanjing Technology and Innovation Research Institute, supported by Guidance, Navigation and Control. The conference has been successfully held for 10 years since 2015 in Xuzhou, Xi'an, Wuhan, Beijing, Birmingham, Singapore and Hong Kong, and other places, attracting a large number of researchers, scholars and students from all over the world. The ICMEAS conference will provide a wonderful forum for you to update your knowledge base and explore the innovations in Mechanical Engineering and Automation Science.
