1)  Interim Intermediate Oversight of the Director of Human Resources Services

I am pleased to announce that with immediate effect, and in close coordination with the Vice President for Administration and Development, Mrs Izel Ann Mojado-Dante, Director for Academic Administration, has been assigned to provide interim intermediate oversight of the Director of Human Resources Services. In this capacity, Mrs Dante will provide strateg
ic guidance, supervise, and work closely with the OHRS Director to ensure the continued delivery of efficient and responsive HR support to our faculty and staff.

This interim arrangement reflects our commitment to both strengthening HR services and supporting leadership development within the Institute. With Mrs Dante’s experience and mentorship, the HR function will continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and care for our community. 
 
We thank you for your cooperation and support during this transition period.

 

2) A Better Working Environment

Dear members of the AIT family,
 
I am committed to creating an environment at AIT that fosters a positive and congenial team attitude.  Therefore this important and regular reminder message is sent out to the AIT community at the beginning of every semester.
 
There may be instances where a person feels that an unsatisfactory situation has developed at AIT which requires addressing, and thus wishes to lodge a complaint or express a grievance.  For these cases, AIT already has policies and procedures for addressing grievances, such as sexual harassment, bullying, invasion of privacy and discrimination, among others (PA 2-1-2) and on disciplinary action (PA 1-3-3, X; PA 1-1-1, IX).  Procedures for handling the grievances of students are set out in the Student Handbook.  Your first step should always be to go through your reporting channel, deviating from that only if the problem is within the channel itself or if you do not receive satisfaction after doing this. 
 
However, if after following these established procedures, it is felt that the complaint or grievance cannot be resolved through these channels and it is of a serious nature, it should be drawn to the attention of the AIT Administration.  Should the matter reach this point, here is the system for complaint or grievance:
 
Step 1 — Make a report and send it, using your AIT email address, to report@ait.ac.th.  Any complaint or grievance reported in this way will be addressed seriously, and in utmost confidence.  However, no anonymous complaints will be accepted.
 
Step 2 — The Director of the Office of Academic Administration (OAA) has been entrusted by the AIT President to make an initial assessment of all complaints and grievances (including, but not limited to, cases of unethical behavior and misconduct). 
 
Step 3 — Based on the OAA Director’s assessment, a confidential report will be submitted to the AIT President, who will then decide the actions that the Institute needs to take, including the formation of a Grievance Committee.  The Grievance Committee will be chaired by the OAA Director, and shall invite external experts and/or ad hoc members.
 
In addressing complaints and grievances, all AIT personnel—faculty, staff, and students—are expected to respond with empathy, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.  Even if a case may appear minor to the recipient of the report, it may be of serious personal or reputational consequence to the individual raising it.  Dismissing or making light of one’s experience can cause further harm and undermine trust in our reporting systems. 
 
3) AIT welcomes Dr. Nurul Husna Hassan, Assistant Professor, School of Engineering and Technology

Dear Members of the AIT Community,
 
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nurul Husna Hassan as the new faculty member of the School of Engineering and Technology. 
 
Dr. Nurul Husna Hassan has been appointed as Assistant Professor in the Water Engineering Management Program, Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering (WREE). She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Engineering and a Master of Science (by Research) in Civil Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Malaysia. 
 
Her research focuses on hydraulic and hydrologic engineering, hydraulic structures, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), fluid–structure interaction (FSI), hydraulic physical models, and energy sustainability. Her work combines advanced numerical modeling with experimental approaches to address challenges in river engineering, dam safety, and hydropower system management.  She has been actively involved in research and consultancy projects such as sedimentation studies of major hydroelectric schemes in Malaysia and hydraulic physical modeling of spillways and dams. She has published in refereed academic journals indexed in Scopus and ISI, focusing on hydraulic engineering, dam safety, sedimentation studies, CFD, and hydropower system management. She has also participated in international conferences and actively contributes to collaborative projects with industry and government-linked companies.

4) AIT welcomes Dr. Lonn Pichdara, Assistant Professor, School of Environment, Resources, and Development

Dear Members of the AIT Community,
 
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Lonn Pichdara as a new faculty member to the School of Environment, Resources, and Development (SERD).
 
Dr. Pichdara has been appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Natural Resources Management Program, within the Department of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources (FANR). He brings a strong academic background, having earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and a Master of Science in Forest Management from Kyushu University, Japan.
 
Dr. Pichdara’s recent work has focused on several key areas, including an evaluation of the effectiveness of protected area systems using the METT—Management Effectiveness of Tracking Tool. His research also covered the effectiveness of community-based natural resource management in forest conservation and livelihood improvement, as well as the intersection of forest policy with poverty, climate change adaptation, the water-food-energy nexus in the Mekong, renewable energy, gender, and agricultural policy.
 
Dr. Pichdara was formerly the Executive Director of My Village (MVi), a local NGO founded in November 2006. MVi works with Indigenous People (IP) communities in Cambodia's northeastern provinces (Stung Treng and Mondul Kiri) to improve their livelihoods and promote natural resource conservation. Before joining MVi, he was the Director of the Center for Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) at the Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI), where he had been a Research Associate and Research Fellow since 2008. He has published in several refereed academic journals, with his work appearing in the fields of Forest Policy, Ecological Economics, Land Use Policy, Environmental Conservation, Nature Geoscience, Forests, Energy Policy, and Sustainable Development

5) New Campus Waste segregation Policy – Your full cooperation is a mandatory for AIT’s Sustainable Future

Dear AIT Community,
The Office of Sustainable Campus (OSC) is pleased to launch AIT’s new Waste Management Policy for waste segregation and disposal, a crucial step toward building a sustainable and responsible campus. Effective immediately, a three-bin system has been placed at 101 campus locations:
 
Green Bin – Food and bio-waste
 
Yellow Bin – Plastic and paper recyclables
 
Blue Bin – General waste
 
Clear disposal directions are posted on most of the bins. We urge everyone to segregate waste at home, in residential areas, and in offices before disposal. The current priority is plastics and paper, as Phase 1 of our waste management goal is to recycle the largest portion of plastics and paper waste collected in the yellow bins.

From the date of this announcement, the next three weeks will serve as an observation period to assess your support in properly disposing of plastic and paper waste into the yellow bins with the help of OFAM Janitorial staff while they collect the garbage. Once we achieve satisfactory results, OSC will invite the contracted recycling company to evaluate and initiate the collection process.
 
Your full cooperation is a mandatory exercise to turn this vision into an implementable reality. The AIT community is the key stakeholder in this effort. We urge every AITIAN to take personal responsibility by adding extra bins at home for waste segregation; these bins can be purchased starting at 30 B or purchased from OSC upon request. Together, we can ensure that our collective actions contribute to the environment and set a benchmark for sustainable practices.
 
We have attached the approved long-term plan for implementing campus waste management for your reference. In the second phase of the implementation process, yellow bin waste segregation bins will be distributed at the main offices. More details will be announced and coordinated soon. We sincerely await AIT community involvement and feedback on how to implement the plan effectively and achieve tangible results. The waste management hierarchy prioritizes waste prevention, followed by reuse, recycling, recovery, and finally disposal. OSC sincerely encourages adapting the first two steps in our daily lives.

In order to ensure that your personal income tax complies with the Tax Regulations, it is important for us to have accurate records of your personal data in our system. Please log in to the following web link https://hris.ait.ac.th using your AIT email account credentials, and click on "View Employee Profile" to update your personal data.

 

Please kindly review and update the following as needed. 

 

1. Contact information:  personal phone number and residence address

2. Passport number and details of your dependentsPlease ensure that the information regarding your child and spouse in the system is up to date. If they are studying or working in Thailand or abroad, kindly update the system accordingly. 

3. Next of Kin: make sure that you have provided all the necessary details in the "Next of Kin" section. The next of kin should not be the same person listed as your direct dependent in HRIS. In the event of an emergency when you are incapacitated or if there are no other family members with you, the next of kin will be contacted by AIT.

 

Any changes in your personal data from the previous to the current year should be supported with documents in hard copies. These include passport copy, marriage certificate, child's birth certificatehouse registration as well as receipts of investment in retirement mutual fund (RMF), personal health insurance, and personal long-term life insurance. For more information about tax deductions and allowances, click this link.

10) Call for Proposals: Small Scale Projects (SSPs) 2026 in Thailand and Laos

AIT has been invited by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bangkok to participate  in the call for proposals of the Small Scale Projects (SSPs), which is supported by a financial contribution within the framework of the Czech Republic development cooperation. 
 
The projects can focus on various sectors – for example environment, agriculture, health, education, social services etc. All projects should be based on the principle of sustainability - that is sustaining the benefits for the long term without any additional external support. The maximum project duration from signing of the Contract by March 2026 to October 2026, is around 8-9 months in total. Given the requirement of application in both electronic and paper submission, the deadlines are 10 October for electronic submission and 15 October for paper submission.

The AIT Medical Center can be reached by email at medical@ait.ac.th or by phone at 02-524-5286 during office hours (from 7.30 to 17.00 hours), from Monday to Friday; and through 
 02-524-5555 for 24-hour medical emergency service.  
 
Medical Emergencies:   
The AIT Medical Center provides emergency medical care. In case of a medical emergency, please call 02-524-5555. The nurse will contact security to escort her to the patient's location. If the patient requires transportation to a hospital, the nurse will call for an ambulance.

Please note that the AIT Medical Center does not provide full-scale emergency room services. For serious medical emergencies such as a suspected heart attack, stroke, or poisoning, immediate treatment at the nearest hospital emergency room is crucial.

If you or someone you know requires emergency medical assistance and is unable to reach the Medical Center or hospital independently, please contact 02-524-5555 or 1669 immediately. These numbers connect you to the Emergency Medical Service provided by the Ministry of Public Health, Thailand.
 
Student’s Insurance:   
Students with Allianz Ayudhya Medical Insurance must present their insurance card before seeing a doctor. New medical cards will be available from the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) in the first week of February 2025. January medical claims can be reimbursed by submitting the original receipt and medical certificate to OSA after payment. Students needing medical care or medicines without consulting a doctor will be required to pay. 
 
Laboratory: 
Following a consultation with a Medical Doctor, employees may be eligible for a free standard blood test at the Medical Center.  Blood tests such as blood sugar, lipid profile, liver function, uric acid and renal function (BUN, Cr), and urine examination are available (no pregnancy test). An electrocardiogram is also available.  
 
Medical appliance/apparatus:   
Crutches, canes and wheelchairs can be borrowed from the AIT Medical Center.  A refundable deposit will be required.  The nurse on duty can be contacted to borrow these appliances/apparatus.  
 
Night-Shift Nurse:  
A night-shift nurse, who is on duty from 19:15 to 07:15 hours is reserved for medical emergencies.  For safety and security reasons, the door of the Medical Center is locked from 22:00 to 07:00 hours.  In medical emergency cases or if any medical emergency assistance is required, the nurse on duty can be contacted at 02-524-5555.

2)  Nature-based Hi-Tech Solutions for Climate-Resilient Water Management in Asian Deltas

Asian delta regions increasingly facing threats from flooding, prolonged droughts, and pervasive environmental degradation. Conventional water governance often isolates ecological, technological, and societal dimensions, leading to fragmented approaches to resilience.

This 5-day program is tailored for professionals eager to tackle the complex challenges of Asian delta regions through innovative Nature-based Hi-Tech Solutions. The course integrates theory, practical tools, and delta-specific field exposure for sustainable, climate-resilient water resource management. A coverage of 5-modules reflects actual learning through practice, experiences and exposures.

Objectives:

  1. Understand principles and the global NbS frameworks from the standard of IUCN.
  2. Assess climate risks and explore how NbS can mitigate impacts of floods, and water vulnerabilities.
  3. Witness real-world NbS applications addressing water challenges.
  4. Gain experience with GIS, hydrological modeling tools, and remote sensing techniques.
  5. Develop strategies for stakeholder engagement and grassroots-level Climate-resilient water management project sustainability.

3) Call for Abstract  “Technological Advancement and Social Innovation for Rural and Agricultural Resilience”

The 2025 AGLE conference on “Technological Advancement and Social Innovation for Rural and Agricultural Resilience” will be held from 5-8 November 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. The conference will include two days of presentations and poster sessions and two days of field trips to rural Thailand.

This scientific event aims to promote the convergence of scientific knowledge and practical innovation, technological development, and applications for sustainability and resilience. The conference organized by IGU Commission on Agricultural Geography and Land Engineering (AGLE) in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand.

The conference will feature high-level, inclusive, evidence-based discussions on the current challenges and priorities related to advancing innovation and technology for long-term rural sustainability, with a focus on contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This event offers a valuable opportunity for both early stage and established researchers and practitioners, to showcase their work, exchange ideas, and engage with globally renowned experts in the field. It also provides a platform to enhance participants’ expertise and professional recognition in rural sustainability. The conference fosters cooperation and strengthens collaborative efforts to address rural challenges and promote sustainable development through innovative solutions.
