1) Announcement: 33rd SEA Games (Cricket), 9 to 19 December 2025

Email from the Director of OFAM on 8 December 2025

Dear AIT Community,

Further to our email announcement dated 11 November 2025, we would like to remind everyone that the 33rd SEA Games (Cricket) will be held at the AIT Football Grounds from 9 to 19 December 2025.

During the SEA Games period, please be mindful of the increased traffic flow—both vehicles and pedestrians around the Multi-Purpose Cricket/Football Ground.  Please also refrain from using the grounds until 21 December 2025 to ensure the smooth preparation, execution, and dismantling of event facilities. Your cooperation will help maintain safety and order throughout the event.

We also encourage you to take this opportunity to watch the games and cheer for your country or any team you wish to support.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

5) Water, Sanitation, and innovation – pathways to progress and a resilient future

The International Water Association (IWA), together with co-organiser Asian Institute of Technology, is proud to announce that the 2025 IWA Water and Development Congress & Exhibition will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, on 8-12 December 2025.

The eighth edition of this leading biennial event will once again bring together a global audience of practitioners, utility managers, researchers, experts, government officials, technology providers, consultants, NGO representatives, and media. More than 3000 water professionals drawn from over 80 countries are expected to attend. The event offers a unique opportunity to profile your organisation and showcase your technologies, solutions, and expertise.

Huge investments are being directed towards water and sanitation infrastructure, particularly in the Global South and especially in the Asia region. The IWA Water and Development Congress & Exhibition will encourage participants to share knowledge on innovations in science and practice, highlighting the opportunities of securing new and effective solutions in water and sanitation policy, technology, and management. Bangkok, the vibrant heart of Thailand, provides an ideal location for hosting a global event with an emphasis on regional developments and opportunities.

Focus

Staged at the outstanding Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, the 2025 edition builds on the resounding success of the 2023 edition held in Kigali, Rwanda. It will once again feature a rich and engaging programme including keynotes, plenary sessions, technical sessions, workshops, forums, business forums, technical tours, and a global exhibition.

The 2025 edition will take place under the theme ‘Water, sanitation, and innovation – pathways to progress and a resilient future’. Key topics will include:

  • Intermittent water supply and achieving 24/7 service
  • Circular economy approaches, and resource recovery and reuse
  • Climate-resilient water and sanitation systems
  • Data-driven decision-making in water management
  • Integrated urban drainage systems for flood risk reduction
  • Low-cost, decentralised and inclusive approaches
  • Nature-based solutions in supply, sanitation, and stormwater management
  • Partnerships and multi-stakeholder collaboration in water management
  • Digital technologies in water and sanitation systems
  • Water quality monitoring and early monitoring systems

These topics will be brought together under the following thematic tracks:

  • Ensure Safe Drinking Water: Innovative approaches for treatment and supply
  • Advancing Wastewater Treatment and Sanitation Services: Sustainable solutions for all
  • Smart Water Management: Integrated approaches for effective water management and planning
  • Enhancing Utility Management and Operations for Sustainable Growth
  • Strengthening Governance and Financial Systems for Long- Term Development

6) Week 9–10 Waste Monitoring Results & Call for Responsible Segregation

Email from the Director OSC on 2 December 2025

Dear AIT Community,

The Office of Sustainable Campus (OSC) is pleased to share the combined results of Week 9 and Week 10 of our Waste Management Model monitoring, with continued attention to yellow bins (plastic and paper recyclables). Observations were conducted across student dormitories, faculty and staff housing, and academic buildings, with support from our dedicated OSC student assistants and volunteers.

Being a postgraduate organization, OSC believes that everyone is aware of the following facts. But the sad part is that very few act responsibly, as we do not see the immediate adverse effects. We urge you to take it seriously and support the movement.
  1. Plastic harms the environment because it does not disappear—it stays in soil, water, and air for hundreds of years and keeps breaking into tiny toxic pieces.

  2. These tiny plastic pieces can enter our food, drinking water, and even the air we breathe, which can affect our health over time.

  3. Recycling plastic reduces this pollution by turning old plastic into new, useful items, helping protect our health, wildlife, and the planet.

Learn about AIT behavior patterns in the 9th & 10th weeks

  • Community participation remains encouraging, with overall cleaner bins across campus.
  • However, recurring issues signal declining habits: black bags, mixed waste, and Styrofoam continue to disrupt proper segregation.
  • These behaviors increase sorting time, reduce recyclability, and compromise the efficiency of our waste management system.

BEHAVIOR PATTERN OF AIT COMMUNITY (Week 9 + Week 10)

  • Dorm A–K: Satisfactory segregation with minimal contamination.

  • Dorm M–X: Generally satisfactory; however, Styrofoam in Dorm U and aluminum cans in Dorm M must be placed in the blue bin.
  • Faculty & Staff Housing: ST12 – Styrofoam; ST6 – wood & Styrofoam; H22 – Styrofoam; ST11 – mixed waste and unidentified back cover — all should go to the blue bin.
  • SV Area: SV1 – Acceptable segregation; SV2 – tissue paper (non-recyclable, place in blue bin); SV3 – kids’ potty chair and aluminum can (non-recyclable hard plastic, place in blue bin).
  • Academic Area: Acceptable segregation; however, we are urging the OFAM Janitorial team not to throw collected mixed waste in the yellow bin.

Simple Reminders for everyone to support the Initiative

  • Use transparent bags or no bag for yellow-bin recyclables.
  • Rinse, dry, and flatten food and drink containers before disposal.
  • Avoid Styrofoam whenever possible; opt for recyclable or compostable alternatives.
  • Sort at the source to reduce contamination and improve recycling efficiency.
  • Report peeling labels or overflowing bins to OSC for prompt action.

Join the OSC Volunteer Team

  • OSC welcomes passionate student volunteers to support our sustainability initiatives:
  • Participate in waste monitoring, workshops, and community events.
  • Gain experience in teamwork, leadership, and environmental management.
  • Contribute to AIT’s progress toward a NetZero Campus.
  • Flexible, student-friendly volunteer hours.
Thank you to everyone contributing to AIT’s sustainability journey and to those who have taken responsibility for disposing of their e-waste for disposal. Each mindful action, from segregating waste at the source to cleaning containers, choosing the correct bin, or guiding others, brings us closer to achieving a truly Zero Plastic Waste Campus."
