(i)    Schools and Centers Performance 2017

Email from President (22 Jan. 2018)

Dear Colleagues

Earlier, I have shared to members of the AIT Stakeholders my slide set on "Performance and Trends of AIT", which is only a part of my report to the Board of Trustees on 11 January 2018. I am pleased to share only with faculty and staff the rest of my slide set on "Performance of all RCs (Schools and Centers)".

Slides 1-10 provide trends of AIT's Financial Output, General Reserve, Fund-Raising Output, Sponsored Projects, Research Output and Quality.

Slides 11-19 provide results of (1) Nine KPIs of the 3 Schools; (2) Financial Performances (2010-2017) of Schools and Centers; (3) Capital Funds of all RCs; (4) Financial Sustainability of Fields/Departments (2011-2016).

Slides 20-23 provide information about the career h-index and # Citations (from both Scopus and Google Scholar Databases) of faculty.

Slides 24-30 provide information about AIT's performance on the 2017 world rankings that AIT is eligible to participate. On Slide 30, you will find that AIT is ranked 60th among the universities of science and technology of the world by U-Multirank.

Slides 31-33 provide our standardized "Table of 48 factual data of AIT from 2010-2017". This is the first time the full list of official facts and figures are compiled systematically for the last 8 years. All figures are directly provided by responsible units.

I am looking for your comments and suggestions to improve this presentation. As I mentioned in my report to the Board of Trustees, I intend to solidify my effort to make all things in AIT as transparent as possible. My 39-years experience at AIT tells me that making all things transparent (except private matters) is the only way to reduce rumors and gossips in the campus.

With all these figures in place today, although not all are positive, we can all understand what our strength and weakness lie. Finally, I trust that you will give me your cooperation and supports for the rest of my term.

Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai
AIT President

A group of senior AIT alumni from Taiwan with their spouses and friends will visit AIT to explain and demonstrate the Tai-Chi (nowadays they call it as Tai Ji or Tai Ji Quan in China). They are going to perform this shortened form, which is known as Chengzi Tai Ji Quan 鄭子太極拳. The performers are all our alumni and their spouses.

DATE: 30 January 2018 (Tuesday)
TIME: 1:45 p.m.
VENUE: behind the AIT Clock Tower (near the pond), administration building

The group will also donate Thai Baht 300,000 (Three hundred thousand Baht). This donation will be used to build the Tai Chi playground in the health garden (near the arboretum).

An Introduction to Tai Ji Quan (By: Wang, Hsin-Ling)
Tai ji quan, or Tai ji, is an ancient Chinese martial art.  As the legend goes, the man who created Tai ji was inspired by a fight he had witnessed between a sparrow and a snake. Thus, the principle of this martial art is subduing the vigorous by the soft. Tai ji has its philosophical roots in Taoism. It is an internal martial art by means of breath control. It emphasizes a straight spine, abdominal breathing and natural range of motion. The most important word in Tai ji is relaxation.
