(ii) ISE welcomes new seconded faculty members - Dr. Millie Pant and Dr. Akshay Dvivedi

School of Engineering and Technology welcomes Dr. Millie Pant and Dr. Akshay Dvivedi who joined Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) Program as Visiting Associate Professors. They are seconded to AIT by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
 
 
Dr. Millie Pant
 
Dr. Pant is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Science and Engineering (DASE), Saharanpur Campus of IIT Roorkee since 2012. Her research interests include Operations Research, Numerical Optimization, Multi Criteria Decision Making,Evolutionary Algorithms, Swarm Intelligence Algorithms and their applications to real life problems arising in diverse fields. She along with her research group is actively engaged in development of sophisticated optimization techniques for determining the solution to complex and intricate optimization problems that are otherwise difficult to solve by the classical optimization methods. Dr. Millie Pant has to her credit around 100 publications in journals and around 100 papers in conferences of national and international repute. She has completed 3 sponsored research projects out of which 2 projects were of international collaboration (Germany and Russia). 12 students have obtained PhD degree under her supervision and currently 6 students are pursuing PhD under her supervision. She is associated with Liverpool Hope University, UK and UKZN, Durban, South Africa, NTNU Norway as a visiting researcher and is working on different topics related to optimization. She has coordinated 3 short term courses and 5 international conferences.

Dr. Akshay Dvivedi
Dr. Akshay Dvivedi is anAssociate Professor in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India.Dr. Dvivedi graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Jiwaji University, Gwalior followed by Master of Technology in Production and Industrial Systems Engineering from IIT Roorkee. He was awarded doctoral degree from IIT. Roorkee. Dr. Dvivedi has 18 years of experience in academics and industry. Before joining IIT Roorkee, he has worked as Principle Scientist, Centre of Excellence in Manufacturing at Research Technology and Innovation Centre, Thermax India.
He has authored more than 100 research papers published in reputed international journals and conference proceedings. He has authored 9 books/book chapters based on his research works. He is a member of several national and international advisory committees. He has handled several sponsored research projects and industrial consultancy projects. He has been quite active in supervising master’s and doctoral research. He is currently involved with research projects on microfabrication and development of Lab-on-a-Chip Devices.
Dr. Dvivedi is an active researcher. He has developed many research and experimentation facilities at IIT Roorkee. These include Ultrasonic Micromachining, Ultrasonic Turning, Grinding assisted Electrochemical Discharge Machining, Near-Dry Electric Discharge Machining, Electric Discharge Form Machining, Rotary Electric Discharge Machining, Powder Electric Discharge Machining, Stir casting, Powder Mixed Rotary Tool Electro Discharge Deposition Process. Also, he has contributed in the development of an innovative device for creating tissue plane cleavage by the hydro - dissection method. This device has reduced cleft palate surgery time to nearly half, and had brought down the complication rate to near Zero. He has been facilitated with several technical awards and social recognitions. He is also honoured with OutstandingTeacherAward by IIT Roorkee.
Dr. Dvivedi has taught a number of under-graduate and postgraduate courses including Advanced Manufacturing Processes, Quality Management, Principles of Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Techniques, Manufacturing Technology, Non-traditional Machining and Total Quality Management.  Noteworthy in his teaching efforts are interactive activities and practical orientation of course including case studies which serve to improve student receptivity.
Dr. Akshay Dvivedi is seconded to Asian Institute of Technology by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. During his stay at ISE/AIT, he will teach Advanced Manufacturing Process (AT 73.9007). Dear Faculty and Staff,
To ensure that personal income tax of AIT faculty and staff comply with Tax Regulation, it is imperative that we have a correct record of your personal data in our system. Please log in the web link, https://hris.ait.ac.th  to update your personal data. Use your AIT email account credential to log in then click “View Employee Profile”.  Furthermore, please update or complete your contact information such as the name and telephone number of your emergency contact person.
For employees with children, particular attention is required in the status of your children in the system, check if it is correct. Update the system if they are studying or working either here in Thailand or abroad. Please request to amend as appropriate.  
Any changes on your personal data from previous to current year should be supported with documents in hard copies. These include passport copy, marriage certificate, birth certificates of your children as well as receipts of investment in RTF/LTF and personal life insurance.
Please submit it to Khun Denphoom in the Office of the Human Resources Services (OHRS), Room 223, Second Floor of the Administration Building within 2 October 2018.

(vi) Change to WhatsApp Backup in Google Drive

Dear users,
 
Due to a new agreement between WhatsApp and Google, WhatsApp backups will no longer count against Google Drive storage quota. However, any WhatsApp backups that have not been updated in more than a year will automatically be removed from storage. This policy will go into effect for all users on November 12, 2018 though some users may see the quota benefits earlier.
To avoid the loss of any backups, we recommend that users manually back up WhatsApp before November 12, 2018.
Recommended Actions:
1. Confirm that your current Android WhatsApp client is backed up (https://faq.whatsapp.com/en/android/28000019/?category=5245251)
 
2. If you would like to refresh any existing backups, please manually back up your WhatsApp client before October 30, 2018

Seismic Resilience for Safer Cities and Infrastructures: 22-25 Nov 2018
 
Urbanization is one of the major global challenges of this era. To address the issues related to safety of cities and infrastructure, the 7th Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering (7ACEE 2018) is being jointly organized by AIT and Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) in collaboration with the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines Inc. (ASEP), from 22 – 25 November 2018 in Bangkok.
Engineers, architects, professionals, students, institutes, universities, and organizations are invited to submit abstracts and share their experience under the theme Seismic Resilience for Safer Cities. Download Abstract Template

The Language Center will organize Survival Thai Courses for Beginners. The 7-week survival Thai course is an introduction to Thai languages which will cover basic words, phrases, daily and simple expressions and basic grammatical structures to communicate with Thais.
