(i)    HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018

Message from AIT President: 1 Jan. 2018

A Happy New Year to all my FaceBook friends, well wishers, peers, colleagues, acquaintances and readers. May your new year be blessed with good fortune, health and success, especially in coping with exciting year ahead.

Do you ever feel that each new year always pass you by at a much faster speed than the previous year? Certainly we are witnessing the beginning of rapid changes at a pace unprecedented in the history of mankind. Technological advances are getting bigger and bigger, and happening more and more quickly. We are at the toe of the so-called "exponential growth" curve, when it will be more and more difficult to plan a reasonable new-year resolution.

My special new year advice for you is — to recognize and brace yourself for the many more disruptive breakthroughs. We hear some of the trends including the emergence of electric vehicles, drones, 3D printing, etc., the real exploitation of cheap and abundant solar energy, the changing paradigms of traditional banks, department stores, and even universities. In the middle term, hot debates have been going on about the Artificial Intelligence Revolution, when AI will soon surpass human's intelligence, and will take over many of human’s jobs and perhaps also our future. This is not a scientific fiction, but what many scientists working in AI research firmly believe.

The impact of changes will be harder and harder for us human to adapt. The famous Darwin’s phrase may be modified from "Survival of the Fittest" to “Survival of the Best Adaptable”.
By the way, for my senior citizen friends, if you can hang on for the next 10 years, you will be awarded with at least an additional 20 years of life expectancy, by the promising trends of genetic-engineering and neuroscience technologies today. Take best care of your health and enjoy whatever comes.
